MATUNGAO, LANAO DEL NORTE – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Lanao del Norte and the Matungao municipal government partnered to provide solar drying technology to local cacao farmers on June 18.
Mayor Jaber Azis signed the agreement at the municipal hall to introduce science-based solutions for local food production and farmer livelihoods.
DOST is deploying the Portable Solar Dryer, which uses stackable enclosed aluminum trays to protect crops from rain, dust, and pests.
The technology aims to provide a faster and cleaner drying process than traditional open-sun methods, which are often disrupted by unpredictable weather.
DOST conducted a hands-on orientation for the Matungao Integrated Farmers Association to ensure members can maximize the tool for cacao production.
Municipal Agriculture Officer Steward Rosiana said adopting these tools reduces labor while preserving crop quality.
Rosiana noted that the technology helps transform traditional farming into more resilient and profitable livelihoods. (PSTO-Lanao del Norte)
