DOST highlights innovation at ALT + TAB Festival

PASAY CITY – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) highlighted the role of innovation in the Philippine gaming and creative industries during the ALT + TAB Festival on June 20.
The two-day event at the SMX Convention Center Manila gathered gamers, content creators, and students to showcase game development and emerging technologies.
DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. said the department is committed to strengthening the country’s game development ecosystem through science and technology.
Solidum noted that gaming and esports have evolved into dynamic industries that generate employment and encourage entrepreneurship.
Through the Esports and Game Development Program, the DOST aims to cultivate a skilled workforce and support technology-driven enterprises.
The festival featured the Game Dev Challenge, where aspiring developers presented original games reflecting technical excellence and creative storytelling.
Visitors also explored a 3D Printing and Prototyping Area featuring digital fabrication technologies that support product design.
The Esports Game Dev Lounge provided demonstrations on how technology enhances digital skills education in the country.
The festival served as a venue for collaboration among government agencies, educational institutions, and industry leaders.
